 Lakewood Plaza was built in 1978. For over 30 years, the plaza served the residents of Richton Park and passing commuters with convenient, neighborhood shopping. Lakewood Plaza was initially a recreation hub, anchored by a nearby racquetball court and bowling alley. Times changed and Lakewood Plaza began to show its age. In 2007, the Village of Richton Park purchased Lakewood Plaza as it sought to assemble properties for a master-planned commercial development. In 2009, the Village of Richton Park renovated Lakewood Plaza. The building got an all new brick facade, a new roof, a new exterior electrical system, a renovated parking lot, and a brand-new plaza sign. In October of 2009, Lakewood Plaza celebrated its grand re-opening. Over 100 families visited Lakewood Plaza to see the changes and enjoy the festival event. With great visibility, access to I-57, and surrounded by nice residential subdivisions, Lakewood Plaza has received a lot of attention and interest. Since the fall of 2009, leasing activity has been tremendous. The plaza has gone from nearly empty to almost full in just six months.
